You’re gonna love this one. From Charleston, South Carolina we at Senclaire bring you the young visual artist from the media groups BANY & CRUEL ART, Rxch. Right now you’re about to read the background story of (in my opinion) one of the most talented visual artists I’ve seen in these past years. Rxch has style like no other, even after reading his list of idols he somehow has created his own unique style that’s gotten him somewhere he didn’t even think he would be years ago. As, you know we at Senclaire admire creatives everywhere, so it only makes sense to get a look into Rxch’s life see what makes him tick.

Who are you?

Rxch: I am an ordinary human who tries to make extraordinary things lol. I go by rxch…or RXCH.. even

The main character, Rxch

Rxch: Whichever you prefer to call me. I’m a designer / visual artist / illustrator or something in that realm lol. Labels are weird.

Where you from Rxch?

Rxch: I’m from Charleston, South Carolina. Born and Raised.

How long have you been doing visual art?

Rxch: I’ve been doing it on and off for about five years took it serious in the fourth year. Never considered the possibility of making money and hopefully a career out of it. It’s just something that I enjoy doing really. That’s about it. I hope that it can stay that way. I hate when stuff feels like work.

A piece Rxch did for Captain Keep & Lord Fubu

Rxch:  It’s just fun starting from a blank document, canvas, page etc. Putting some time into it and know that it’s complete and perfect to you. Even if you have to leave it alone for a period of time. It’s so worth it the end. Really rewarding experience, I put that over the money

Who are your main inspirations as far as art goes?

Rxch: This is about to be a long list, Sam Spratt, Mina Kwon, Henock Sileshi, Jonathan Green, Toro Y Moi, Bob Ross, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jackson Pollock, Suzanne Ciani, and Shepard Fairey

How’d you getting into art? Like what got you hooked onto it?

Rxch: I started off with drawing, in elementary school I would always make little drawings on my math assignments instead of doing them. (Math was my worst and least favorite in school). Anime / video games was kinda my way into drawing characters that I really enjoyed though. This was around the time that Cartoon Networks had their Toonami segment, I would always watch these shows after getting home from school. I loved drawing characters from DragonBall Z, Gundam Wing, Yu-Gi-Oh, Big O, stuff like that. I knew I had a love for art at an early age but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life when I grew up, I just know I wanted it to be art related. So when people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grow I would always give a different answer, sometimes I would say a painter, other times I would say a cartoonist, police sketch artist (I didn’t know at the time that sketching for the police really had nothing to do with expressing yourself creatively.)

A recent piece Rxch did for BANY Records

Rxch: So it went from that to an architect to like…you know those people that do caricatures of people..that as well. Eventually I just settled with saying that I wanted to be an artist. That’s like the most general way to put it. When I got to high school, I went to this one named Garrett Academy Of Technology. You had to pick up a class in addition to your regular ones, they called em “techs”…which is like career / skill type class that you could see yourself getting a job in. I had that whole “something related to art” thing going on in my head then too. So I picked the closest I could find. Which ended up being a class called “Graphic Communications” …it basically taught you photoshop stuff. Long story short I ended up failing that class. I’m not sure what it was, cause I’ve never really been a top student, I feel like it may have been that I didn’t like the classroom environment or just that it we weren’t really doing anything creative..it was boring to me. So I didn’t put my all into it.

How did you start to make a name for yourself artist wise?

Rxch: Basically, My learning how to do digital illustrations got people interested..and then later on down the line my graphic design skills began to improve and people began gravitating to me for those things, it’s still wild to me that happens, people calling me their inspirations and stuff. I’m just like “wowww thank you I’m a nobody only doing what makes sense to me but thank you fr.”

How’d you get involved w/ CruelArt & BANY Records?

Rxch: Cruel Art and BANY are two amazing and talented collectives that have an eye for cool shit. To make a long story short and to put it plain and simple, they fuck with me and I fuck with them. Quick shoutout to the Raisedbyfilm squad, we’ll be working together momentarily.

What would you say to someone who finds inspiration from you? Someone who’s choosing to go into your field as an artist?

I’d tell them to continue push themselves creatively as much as possible, there’s always something else that you can learn to make yourself sharper at what you do. That really applies to anything tbh. Take breaks if you feel a creative block going on, go outside, take walks. Find some music you like or a show you enjoy to play in the background while you create. Never give up. No fear. Fuck anyone who’s doubting or hating. Make them eat their words.

You crazy kids should know who that is, also by Rxch

Rxch: Also I would tell them to get out and talk to people, try to connect you know? You never know who you could meet or link up with and create with if you don’t leave your house. This is something that I’m learning currently. can’t be antisocial and awkward forever, it’s gonna hinder you If you do. Most importantly man don’t forget to have fun.

Anything the fans should be looking out for in 2016?
